Activity Description

Ceres Rail Company offers this unique way to see the Western Cape, traveling from Cape Town to Ceres, aboard our historic passenger train. This train will be hauled by a heritage steam locomotive but if there is an issue, due to the fire risk and other events beyond our control, the trip may be hauled by a diesel locomotive.

The journey begins at 08h00 (passengers to arrive between 07h00 and 07h30) from the platform at Harbour Bridge Hotel and Suites, Dockrail Road, Foreshore, Cape Town. Once aboard you will enjoy a 4-hour rail experience to Ceres, traveling through the beautiful Cape, through Paarl, Wellington, the Nuwekloof Pass, Wolseley, Michells Pass, and finally Ceres. We have a fully licensed cash bar on board as well as a dining car providing coffee and other snacks. Various books and memorabilia are also available for purchase onboard. We also have a card machine to make life easier.
Our journey reaches its furthest point at the Ceres Golf Estate at approximately 12h30 where our crew will quickly service the locomotive and coaches, ensure ample water supply for the trip home, and then we will depart. At this stage, being a test trip, we do not envision passengers disembarking at Ceres except for a short smoke break and leg stretch.
We expect to depart from Ceres at 13h30, arriving back in Cape Town at approximately 19h30.
